This is not a story. The works thus juxtaposed refer to nothing in particular but perhaps the tenuous nature of their materiality. None of them exist anymore. Complementary images can be found below. The "chickenship" was a mini-allegory for scientific inquiry realized in foil, and mounted on a mini-tripod. It features a male form struggling in the embrace of a serpent toward the light of reason. The dying leaf is a symbol of life itself. The "epic hero" was a bas-relief made with three layers of dried blotches of white tea with pomegranate. You can observe its progress in the slideshow above. Its "epicity" was initially accidental in the first layer, but it was my intention to develop it into the heroic pose that you can now observe, complete with the dragon-like creature. The plate has since been washed. The "snow man" was an armless sovereign sitting in the midst of a frozen lake. Each of these works can also be seen as a fractured projection of the notion of masculinity. |
